Technical Evaluation of Gear Motor and Drag Chain Reject Conveyor at Rizal Cement Plant

Tsubaki Team recently carried out a comprehensive inspection at a cement manufacturing company located in Rizal. The activity was led by Solutions Engineer Michael, who was tasked with evaluating two critical pieces of equipment: a gear motor that has been in continuous operation for nearly three decades, and the drag chain reject conveyor, an essential system for handling rejected materials in cement production.

The gear motor, having served the plant for almost 30 years, was subjected to a detailed assessment of its mechanical integrity, lubrication condition, and operational performance. Michael carefully examined the bearings, seals, and internal components to determine the extent of wear accumulated over decades of service. Despite its age, the gear motor remains functional, but the inspection revealed signs of deterioration that warrant close monitoring and potential refurbishment. Preventive measures were recommended to ensure that the motor continues to operate reliably while minimizing the risk of unexpected breakdowns.

Attention was also directed toward the drag chain reject conveyor, which plays a vital role in maintaining production efficiency by transporting rejected materials away from the main process line. The inspection covered the conveyor chain, sprockets, and housing, with particular focus on identifying wear, misalignment, and potential failure points. Findings indicated abrasive wear caused by cement dust exposure, underscoring the need for improved sealing and more frequent cleaning intervals. Michael emphasized the importance of adopting high-performance lubricants specifically designed for heavy-duty cement applications to enhance durability and reduce friction-related damage.

Operational testing was conducted to observe both systems under live conditions. This allowed the team to detect abnormal vibration, noise, and irregular movement that might not be visible during static inspection. The results confirmed that while both systems remain operational, proactive maintenance is essential to sustain their performance and prevent costly downtime.

Through this activity, Tsubaki ProService delivered significant value to the cement manufacturer. By identifying refurbishment opportunities for the gear motor, recommending enhanced lubrication practices, and highlighting preventive measures for the drag chain conveyor, the inspection contributed to extending equipment life, reducing downtime, and ensuring workplace safety.

This initiative reflects Tsubaki ProService's commitment to supporting industrial partners with expert technical evaluations and tailored maintenance strategies. By leveraging decades of engineering expertise, Solutions Engineer Michael helped the cement manufacturer secure reliable operations, minimize risks, and plan for long-term equipment sustainability. Such proactive interventions not only safeguard productivity but also reinforce the importance of preventive maintenance in heavy industries where equipment reliability is paramount.
